IMP Research Institute of Molecular Pathology| Private University

Completion 2017

The IMP, as part of the Vienna Bio Centre (VBC), is a private university and a biomedical research institution that conducts open-application basic research in the field of molecular life sciences. The IMP employs around 270 people.

ENTRANCE AREA
The spacious foyer offers an insight into the activities of the IMP thanks to the all-round seating with monitor. The mailboxes are integrated into the wall behind the reception desk. On an intermediate level there are cosy seating niches in red, from which you can look into the auditorium through a window.

AUDITORIUM
For acoustic reasons, the auditorium is equipped with a fully textile-clad wall. In order to enable multiple use of the room, the furniture is kept flexible with individual chairs.

CAFETERIA
Different table sizes and shapes for a total of up to 140 people offer students and staff the opportunity to get together in different groups.

STUDENT WORK AREAS
Each student has a small work area at their disposal. Despite the short distance to the next workstation, the partition walls allow for optimal storage and spatial separation.

STORAGE AREAS with various functions
In the open stairwell there is a wall of books with a sofa and round stools. In the galleries there are numerous other lounge areas with lounge furniture, tables and armchairs or bar tables with bar stools.

COLOUR CONCEPT
The choice of colours creates a zoning effect in the open-plan building. The quiet and common areas are kept in muted colours (beige, brown, grey-blue). The students’ workstations stand out with a vibrant, fresh green colour. The seating niches in the mezzanine with a view of the lecture theatre are used during the day and in the evening, while the bright wine red colour creates a kind of bar-like atmosphere at events.
